Weather is a planetary attribute determined solely by the planet's primary Biome. Its effects include various conditions related to that planet, including wind, rain and even meteor showers.

All weather events have 10 seconds of warm-up time and 10 seconds of cool-down time.

Wind

Wind is an attribute that affects all weather. Depending on the current weather event, the wind can have its maximum speed limited. For weather events like rainfall, wind affects both the speed and direction of the weather effect. Wind in at least some weather types can push the player.

Passive Weather

Passive weather cannot directly injure the player. It may still have other effects depending on the weather type.

Clear.png Clear

Clear is the default weather state and simply means there are no active weather effects. Special locations, such as the Outpost or mission areas, will always only have clear weather. Barren planets and Asteroid Fields are always clear.

Each clear weather event has a duration ranging from 40 to 100 seconds (40 seconds to 1 minute, 40 seconds). There is no maximum wind speed during clear weather.

Drizzle.png Drizzle

Found on planet types: Garden, Forest

Drizzle is light rainfall. The light rain isn't enough to pool and form puddles, but it will still water your crops for you.

Each drizzle event has a duration ranging from 50 to 400 seconds. The maximum wind speed during drizzle is 4.5 tiles per second.

Rain1.png Rain

Found on planet types: Garden, Forest, Ocean, Savannah, Jungle

Heavier rainfall than drizzle. The water that falls can pool into puddles in confined areas. This may cause lighting, furniture and crops to be broken and dropped as an item. Rain that falls onto tilled earth will water crops for you. Rain inflicts the Wet debuff on entities that have not taken shelter.

Each rain event has a duration ranging from 40 to 100 seconds (40 seconds to 1 minute, 40 seconds), and the maximum wind speed during rain is 15 tiles per second.

Thunder.png Storms

Found on planet types: Garden, Forest, Ocean, Jungle

Even heavier rainfall than Rain. During a storm, lightning flashes in the background. A storm can result in a large amount of water pooling in confined areas. Storms can water crops and inflict the Wet debuff on entities caught within the downpour.

Each storm has a duration ranging from 50 to 400 seconds (50 seconds to 6 minutes, 40 seconds), and the maximum wind speed during a storm is 60 tiles per second.

Glowingrain.png Luminous Rain

Found on planet types: Moons, Garden, Mutated, Magma

Luminous rain is like drizzle, except the rain will glow. This provides a small amount of illumination to the surrounding area. Luminous rain does not cause the Wet debuff, does not water crops and cannot pool as normal types of rainfall can.

Each luminous rain event has a duration ranging from 50 to 400 seconds (50 seconds to 6 minutes, 40 seconds), and the maximum wind speed during luminous rain is 10 tiles per second.

Sandstorm1.png Sandstorm

Found on planet types: Desert, Decayed

Sandstorms cause large amounts of sand to blow in the same direction as the wind. Sandstorms inflict the Slow debuff on any entity exposed to the sandstorm. A hoverbike can be used to bypass the slow effect. Sandstorms also cause small piles of Loose Silt to accumulate along cliffs and walls.

The sandstorm weather event has a duration ranging from 50 to 240 seconds (50 seconds to 4 minutes), and the maximum wind speed during a sandstorm is 42 tiles per second.

Snow1.png Snow

Found on planet types: Forest, Snow, Arctic, Tundra

Snow is characterised by snowflakes gently falling from the heavens. Exposed surface blocks will receive a layer of snow, replacing any grass. This effect is only visual. Snow doesn't accumulate or water crops as rain does.

Each snow event has a duration ranging from 50 to 400 seconds (50 seconds to 6 minutes, 40 seconds). There is no maximum wind speed during snowy weather.

Blizzard.png Blizzards

Found on planet types: Snow, Arctic, Tundra

A blizzard is a very heavy snowstorm. The decreased visibility can make fighting difficult. Despite the visual effects, blizzards do not cause any debuffs or deal any damage.

A blizzard has a duration ranging from 50 to 400 seconds (50 seconds to 6 minutes, 40 seconds), and the maximum wind speed during a blizzard is 42 tiles per second.

Windstorm.png Windstorms

Found on planet types: Savannah

Windstorms are a purely visual effect that shows gusts of wind blowing through open spaces. Windstorms do not have any effects on exposed entities or blocks.

Each wind storm event has a duration ranging from 50 to 400 seconds, and the maximum wind speed during a wind storm is 35 tiles per second.

Duststorm.png Dust Storms

Found on planet types: Midnight

Dust Storms are extreme weather events that greatly reduce visibility. Fighting can be quite difficult due to the clouds of dust obscuring the view. Fortunately, dust storms do not cause any other negative effects.

Each duststorm has a duration ranging from 50 to 400 seconds (50 seconds to 6 minutes, 40 seconds), and the maximum wind speed during a duststorm is 35 tiles per second.

Ash.png Light Ashfall

Found on planet types: Volcanic

Light ashfall is another type of wind storm, featuring exclusively on Volcanic planets. Fighting can be difficult due to clouds of ash obscuring vision. Like with snow, exposed blocks will receive a coating of ash.

Light ashfall events have a duration ranging from 50 to 400 seconds (50 seconds to 6 minutes, 40 seconds). There is no maximum wind speed during light ashfall.

Dangerous Weather

Dangerous weather is weather that presents a risk to players, NPCs and buildings alike. Building a permanent structure on a planet prone to dangerous weather is not recommended due to the risks involved.

Acidrain.png Acid Rain

Found on planet types: Toxic

The pollutants of toxic planets seeps into the clouds, making even the rain itself a hazard. During acid rain, raindrops are coloured green. Entities that are exposed to acid rain are poisoned unless they are somehow immune to poison (e.g. via consuming an Antidote). Taking shelter after being exposed to acid rain will cause the poison to eventually wear off as normal.

The acid rain weather event has a duration ranging from 50 to 400 seconds (from 50 seconds to 6 minutes, 40 seconds), and maximum wind speed during acid rain is 15 tiles per second.

Ember.png Cinder Showers

Found on planet types: Volcanic

Cinder Showers are in effect when small sparks and flames begin to blow through the background. Not long after, small flames will fall from the sky. Once they hit a solid block, they'll begin to burn, periodically spreading and throwing out more flames. These flames will cause the Burning debuff upon contact, which also spreads the flames further. But they have a far more insidious threat: the flames may eventually destroy the block they've ignited.

Only flammable or meltable materials (e.g. wood, snow) can be destroyed by cinder showers, even as background blocks. However, the flames themselves can land on more unusual surfaces such as roofing tiles or ash and may spread to more flammable tinder. Trees, surprisingly enough, are unaffected by cinder showers. Furniture impacted by cinder showers will be broken and dropped as an item. This may count as theft, so a player should be wary about being in a city during a cinder shower.

Each cinder shower has a duration ranging from 50 to 400 seconds (50 seconds to 6 minutes, 40 seconds). The maximum wind speed during this weather event is 5 tiles per second.

Smallmeteorstorm.pngSmall Meteorites

Found on planet types: Moons, Decayed, Volcanic, Magma

During a small meteor shower, small meteorites fall from the sky and explode when they come into contact with any player, NPC, monster, vehicle, or solid block. Small meteorites have an explosive area of effect with an approximately 4 block radius and deal 1000 damage (reduced according to defense rating) to players, NPCs, monsters, and vehicles caught within the explosion.

Foreground blocks caught within a 4 block radius of the epicenter are dealt 28 block damage (140 block DPS multiplied by 0.2 second "fire time"), which is sufficient to destroy any vanilla material except Brains or Dead Core. However, blocks that contain a strong material as well as a strong matmod (e.g., Ore) may survive a direct hit from a single meteorite.

Any furniture or other objects that are caught within the explosion are broken and dropped as items. Within generated cities, if the player picks up these items, villagers may consider this to be theft, so players should be wary about being in a city during a meteor shower.

Small meteor showers have a duration ranging from 30 to 60 seconds. In addition, the maximum wind speed during a meteor shower is 15 tiles per second.

Meteorstorm.png Large Meteorites

Found on planet types: Decayed, Volcanic, Magma

A meteor shower of large meteorites is an exceptionally dangerous - and destructive - event. The speed and size of large meteorites makes them difficult to avoid; they impact a much larger area than small meteorites and can quickly reduce cities and structures to rubble. If a player is aware of a large meteor shower, they should beam away or tunnel deep underground until the meteor shower has passed.

During a large meteor shower, one or a small number of large meteorites fall from the sky and explode when they come into contact with any player, NPC, monster, vehicle, or solid block. Large meteorites have an explosive area of effect with an approximately 4 block radius and deal 1000 damage (reduced according to defense rating) to players, NPCs, monsters, and vehicles caught within the explosion.

Foreground blocks caught within a 20 block radius of the epicenter are dealt 28 block damage (140 block DPS multiplied by 0.2 second "fire time"), which is sufficient to destroy any vanilla material except Brains or Dead Core. However, blocks that contain a strong material as well as a strong matmod (e.g., Ore) may survive a direct hit from a single meteorite.

Any furniture or other objects that are caught within the meteor explosion are broken and dropped as items. Within generated cities, if the player picks up these items, villagers may consider this to be theft, so players should be wary about being in a city during a meteor shower.

Upon impact of a large meteorite, small meteorite fragments are blown out of the crater and deal contact damage to any surviving players, NPCs, monsters, and vehicles that are nearby. When these fragments strike solid foreground blocks, they become Meteorite Rock foreground blocks.

Large meteor showers last for 10 seconds. The maximum wind speed during this weather type is 15 tiles per second.
