The Dropship is a flying vehicle added in Version 1.4.0.

The dropship has a possibility of appearing within a single surface fuel depot, one of the bounty microdungeons. The player has no means to take or keep a dropship found on a planet, but can pilot it while on the planet. It is able to dispense a limited number of capsules, providing pixels and other low-value loot.

Pre-Release Builds

In the concept stages of Starbound, dropships were used as a means of transportation between planetary surfaces and the player's space station. The dropship's appearance and furnishings were stylized based on the player's race.

When teleportation replaced the functionality of the dropship in the alpha, the dropship replaced the player's space station. As the beta progressed, dropships underwent a design overhaul, becoming the final ships.
