Las'la Crimsonwing was an Avian who fled his native village to live with his Grounded wife. Despite living among the Grounded, Las'la had secretly retained his belief in Kluex, and remained in contact with his Flightless family. He experienced a crisis of faith when his brother, Shir'en was selected to become an Ascendant. When Shir'en leaped and hit the ground, he suffered a concussion and survived only thanks to a bale of hay beneath the tower. These events led Las'la to denounce Kluex entirely.
