Swarm Drone Mech Arm is an arm part mech component that can be crafted using salvaged materials found in space encounters. The crafting recipe has a chance to be learned after finding an Experimental Mech Blueprint.
This arm component can be equipped on either or both mech arm slots.
Once learned it can be assembled using a Mech Part Crafting Table and equipped using a Mech Assembly Station.
While equipped, the player can use the Swarm Drone Mech Arm, while piloting their mech, to deploy a drone that orbits the mech, remains deployed for up to 2 minutes, and has 1000 health. A new drone can be deployed once every 2 seconds, and up to 5 drones can be deployed at once; attempting to deploy a sixth drone will do nothing. Once an enemy has been in a drone's range for 0.8 seconds, the drone fires a shot at the enemy every 0.3 seconds that deals 15 damage if it hits, producing a single-drone fire rate of ~3.33 shots per second, a single-drone DPS of 50, and a 5-drone DPS of 250. However, automated targeting is bad at hitting moving targets, or at hitting stationary targets if the mech is moving, so only a small fraction of shots are likely to hit, resulting in a much lower practical DPS.
Drones automatically fire on neutral monsters and NPCs (including Deadbeats, Froggs, and Shadows), and should not be used planetside if the player does not want to kill them unconditionally.
The drones can come between the player's mech and enemies or enemy fire, absorbing damage and applying knockback to the enemy. While not as protective as the shield drone, they can still have some defensive value.
