Nocturnal is one of 14 personality types which an NPC can have. NPCs with this personality type prefer to be awake at night. Unlike NPCs without this personality type, Nocturnal NPCs that fall asleep only wake up after noon but before midnight (in the time range 0.5-0.0).

The Starbound assets do not correctly pass NPC personality parameters into the NPC behavior loop, and as a result, while a nocturnal NPC can begin sleeping at time of day 0.0, the default wake-up time of 0.0 continues to apply (as opposed to the intended nocturnal wake-up time of 0.5), which results in the nocturnal NPC going to sleep and instantly waking back up again, often repeated over and over until time 0.4.
