Bad ad reporting
Is there a place where I can report rogue ads that autoredirect? Been bombarded with such ads while trying to read the pages of the wiki on my mobile device, making the site unusable.
The main url includes "cloudfront", with a random string of alphanumeric characters before it in place of www. Usually it's some giveaway scam, other times it claims that my device has viruses.
If this is the wrong place, can I be directed to where I need to go? Thanks! SapphireSea (talk) 19:49, 5 June 2018 (BST)

modding help is seriously outdated
the dungeon-making documentation, specifically the page about adding custom tilesets, is very out of date (from the giraffe days). I have no idea how to add a custom tileset now, because to my knowledge mods are applied to the assets folder, which does not contain the tiled folder.

Adding a new mod for the material IDs page
Hello, I am the author of the Shoggoth Race Mod, and I wish to insert my mod into this list
https://starbounder.org/Modding:Materials:Mods
So that other mods avoid making tiles that go into tile ids 36900-36999. However, as a basic user, it seems I cannot add the link to my mod.
tag pages not listing all items with the tag.
More than half of the Peacekeeper objects do not appear on the tag pages they should be listed on. The individual object pages show the tags are there.
Similarly, the variants of Ember Coral (2 through 5) do not show on the coral tag page, while having the tags on their individual pages. Metalax (talk) 01:59, 15 July 2021 (UTC)
Add Commands to Main Index Page
I would like to add a link to the Commands page to the Main Page. This requires admin access to the Template:MainIndex I imagine the Commands section would look like this, with this little icon I uploaded.
Commands
I was thinking of moving Getting Started to the top left about the Player section, and placing Commands above or below multiplayer. OmegaPaladin (talk) 05:43, 22 August 2021 (UTC)
Template:Mechs is Missing the Neo Laser Mech Arm
I don't have permissions to edit templates, so I have to ask here for help. The Template:Mechs template is missing the reference for the Neo Laser Mech Arm. -- Rl.starbound (talk) 12:24, 16 September 2021 (UTC)
- To be clear, this issue is separate from the "Bug in Mechs Page and/or Templates" issue. In this case, the part simply needs to be added to the template. Rl.starbound (talk) 21:45, 27 October 2021 (UTC)
Bug in Mechs Page and/or Templates
Recently I updated several of the mech arm pages, adding more detail on the operation of the weapons. I did not (knowingly) edit the metadata of those parts. I noticed a few unexpected and unwanted side effects. First, a blank "Racial Descriptions" section appeared in most of the pages I edited, despite the fact that I did not add or edit anything involving racial descriptions. Second, the "Data" section (that displays the metadata such as itemname) at the bottom of each of these pages disappeared, despite the fact that I did not edit or delete anything involving metadata. Third, I noticed that all of the mech arms that I edited had disappeared from the Mech Arms table of the Mechs page, for reasons I can't understand. The mech arms that I edited are: Gravity Mine Mech Arm, Neo Laser Mech Arm, Plasma Drone Mech Arm, Solus Katana Mech Arm, Spikefist Mech Arm, Wobbleshot Mech Arm. -- Rl.starbound (talk) 13:52, 15 September 2021 (UTC)
- As a test, I reverted one of the pages, Spikefist Mech Arm, to the state before I made any changes to it. I've waited an hour (in case there is some sort of cache) and fully refreshed the Mechs page, and that arm is still not listed in the Mech Arms table. From this I would assume that the problem is not due to the changes I made, but rather some template coding error. -- Rl.starbound (talk) 14:15, 16 September 2021 (UTC)
- I ended up reverting all of the changes I made to mech parts, and after a roughly 24 hour period, all of the parts were restored to the parts tables in the Mechs page. Despite my edits being seemingly innocuous, they clearly broke something about how the parts tables populate. Unless someone can figure out why that happens, I'd recommend the admins to lock all of the mech parts articles. -- Rl.starbound (talk) 15:17, 18 September 2021 (UTC)
- As a followup, another user, Michel4, edited three mech arm pages, adding some article text and not editing metadata, and as predicted, those three parts disappeared from the Mechs arms listings. I reverted his changes, and after about 24 hours, those three parts reappeared on the Mechs arms listings. We really need admin assistance to either fix the Mechs page parts listings, or to lock the mech parts articles. Rl.starbound (talk) 21:43, 27 October 2021 (UTC)
- Hi Katzeus, it looks like this issue is still not fixed. I noticed that a user made a legit grammatical correct to almost all of the mech arm parts, and as a result, they're not showing up on the Mechs arms listing anymore. From past experience, reverting all of those articles should "fix" the listings. If this issue can't be fixed in a reasonable time frame, can we at least lock the mech parts articles so no one can innocently break them again? Rl.starbound (talk) 18:04, 29 January 2022 (UTC)
- Additional followup. I edited Pod Chest and Weapon Chest and shortly thereafter, their entries disappeared from the list on the Storage page. I suspect that this is a more general problem with the list-generating code on this wiki. Rl.starbound (talk) 15:54, 24 April 2022 (UTC)
- I solved the Storage issue with Pod Chest and Weapon Chest by obsessively making tiny edits to those files until they worked. Honestly, I don't really know why the work now and not before. This storage list template feels overly fragile. Rl.starbound (talk) 00:33, 11 May 2022 (UTC)
- Additional followup. I have noticed that many of the list-generating templates on this site display similar fragility, and break if any changes are made to the underlying items, no matter how innocuous. In addition to the examples above, I've noticed that making changes to armor set pieces can cause their armor set pages to break (e.g., I tried to add "Category:Removed Armor" tags to the developers set piece pages, but doing so broke the respective set pages). Also, I've noticed that making any changes to protective armor set pages (e.g., Perfect Set) can cause them to disappear from their respective armor listings on the Armor page. Rl.starbound (talk) 23:40, 10 May 2022 (UTC)
- Hi Katzeus, it looks like a user UnyieldingFury made some changes to the Protector's Mech Body without reading the warning, and now that mech part has disappeared from the list (as well as having broken templates). I tried the "empty edit" trick, so we'll see if this template manages it repair itself in around 24 hours. -- Rl.starbound (talk) 21:49, 13 June 2023 (UTC)
- Looks like the empty edit fixed this as well. Hooray! -- Rl.starbound (talk) 01:55, 16 June 2023 (UTC)
Adding a new mod for the material IDs page (again)
I'm (xbxbxb123) the author of Expandable Ship DX and I want to reserve the tiles I'm planning to add (and be able to reserve more later if I make another mod) (https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2690592867)
https://starbounder.org/Modding:Materials:Mods
It looks like I can't do this, can someone give me permission or something? Also, sorry if I'm doing this wrong, I'm new to editing wikis
Ok how the hell do I contact a moderator, its been weeks and this hasn't been fixed. -xbxbxb123
Question
Should Stardew Valley still be listed as a published title under Chucklefish? I tried adding that info in, but the abuse logs are preventing me to do so. -- PanchamBro (talk • contributions) 19:12, 6 July 2022 (UTC)
Searching for an existing page doesn't actually bring you to that page (MediaWiki issue?)
When you search for a page that already exists (i.e. "poptop"), hitting the search button doesn't bring you to that page. Instead, it just takes you to a list of search results, while also saying the page actually exists. From what I can tell, this doesn't happen on other MediaWiki-powered wikis (such as the Team Fortress 2 official wiki and the SmashWiki just to name two). If this is supposed to happen, I'm sorry. NARbluebear (talk) 19:40, 10 July 2022 (UTC)
- Okay, this still hasn't been fixed. It's been half a year. This is especially infuriating for me since I have other mediawiki sites as search engines so I can quickly look up what I need, I don't want to be inconvenienced by searching for an article that already exists, waiting like 10 or so seconds for the site to load, then seeing that it only brought me to the search results. I know it's a minor issue, but still. How do I contact a moderator about this? NARbluebear (talk) 01:56, 25 December 2022 (UTC)
- Update: I've found the cause. Clicking on Search manually just leads you to https://starbounder.org/mediawiki/index.php?search=%s&title=Special%3ASearch&fulltext=Search instead of https://www.starbounder.org/w/index.php?search=%s&title=Special%3ASearch&go=Go (with %s being the search query). I'm not sure if this can by changed by the administrators as I've never set up MediaWiki before, but hopefully it's possible. I've set up my browser to use the latter link to quickly look up any page I need, such as the page for the Ruin. NARbluebear (talk) 00:42, 24 March 2023 (UTC)
Linux steamcmd download link.
Can you change the download link for steamcmd in the Linux server guide page to the valve cdn at (message me for link). I would not trust a version that is hosted on a domain that has a virus name in its URL.
- Hi, SLIPdiggers! Akamai is, in fact, the primary CDN that Valve uses. You can easily see this by going to any screenshot/artwork on the Steam Community and clicking on "Open image in a new tab". You'll be redirected to steamuserimages-a.akamaihd.net. This is why sites like the Valve Developer Community Wiki and even Steam itself use or reference it in some way. Several companies like Apple, Microsoft, BBC, Adobe, ESPN, Sony, Yahoo!, and even the Massachusetts Institute of Technology use the service.[2] Nintendo also uses it according to their legal information on their UK website.[3] Furthermore, if Akamai was a virus, none of these large companies would be using it. Thanks for understanding. NARbluebear (talk) 01:10, 24 March 2023 (UTC)
Description edit of a cosmetic armor page
i would like to fix the description in https://starbounder.org/Rainbow_Wood_Set, i don't agree with "It bears some resemblance to the Whispy Woods, a recurring boss in the Kirby series", i don't find it pertinent, my idea is to replace it by "It bears some resemblance to Mokujin, a character in the Tekken series"
Nothing's actually stopping you from changing the trivia for that set, admins don't deal with minor things like thas after all - Armok
Editing Modding:Liquids:Mods on new acct. prevents hyperlinks
I edited some of the liquid IDs and the lines that were edited had hyperlinks. Not even changing the links, just being present and updating the table row, I was getting edits flagged as bad faith (I mean, I am a new user so it makes sense) so I ended up trashing the links rather than leave data out of date;
- Any chance someone could restore link for liquid ID 20?
- I moved my mod on ID 102 up to 33 to fix a collision, and had to trash my mod's link
- I would like to add a link for ID # 19 as well, but I don't know if patches for conflicts are important enough

ChuckleNuts69
Hey, I tried making a talk page about this first, but it kept telling me that it was an "Unacceptable page name" so I'll bring it here. The user "ChuckleNuts69" has replaced the pages for the Hylotl, Avian, Florian and Novakid races with some horny copypasta.
I restored them to the previous edits from before the troll replaced them, but we should take measures to prevent further action from them or others.

Bugs in Templates
This issue is related to the "Bug in Mechs Page and/or Templates" issue above, but it's more general. I've noticed that making a small text (not metadata) change in many of the articles results in the article's template breaking. As an example, i've recently edited Crystal Glass, and now its template broke sometime in the 24 hours after the change. If you revert to the previous copy, the template will be fixed, but I think we can agree that my change should not have caused the template to break. This sort of breakage is happening to articles all over the wiki, and it's really disincentivizing updating articles, even when those articles are out of date. Rl.starbound (talk) 19:58, 6 April 2023 (UTC)
- FYI, while demonstrating the issue to another person I reverted the contents of Crystal Glass, so that no longer shows the template breakage. Unfortunately, there are dozens more examples, so let's use Sewer Gauge as the example now. Rl.starbound (talk) 10:38, 13 April 2023 (UTC)
- Hello - sorry to have not replied to this! I think that page (Sewer Gauge) is refreshed/working now - does it look okay to you? I'll follow up on your talk page and see if there are other examples that haven't refreshed. -- Katzeus (talk) 22:03, 28 May 2023 (UTC)
- Hello Katzeus, thanks for checking in. Most of the pages that I changed, and whose templates broke, appear to have fixed themselves by now. I've gone back over the last few months checking my edits, and the following pages still seem to be broken: Copper Fence, Wooden Fence, Plant Matter, Electricity Warning Sign, Empty Shelf, Flickering Ceiling TV, Large Wooden Scaffolding, Plasma Disc, Sewer Flood Door, USCM Sign, and Wireless Generator. I tried the empty edit trick you mentioned, so I guess we'll see in a day or two if those articles are fixed. -- Rl.starbound (talk) 01:31, 1 June 2023 (UTC)
- Looks like, after using the empty edit trick, all of those pages have fixed themselves sometime in the last 24 hours. -- Rl.starbound (talk) 13:31, 2 June 2023 (UTC)

Seeker's Trousers - Missing ingredients
Hello there!
I was checking this wiki for information about the Seeker's set, but the ingredients for the legs armor are missing.
I tried to edit it, and figured out that "If you find item details are not being updated properly contact a site admin, updates to the article won't be reflected in the itembox in some cases.". So I can't edit that myself, here's the ingredients needed:
- 0/8 Solarium Star
- 0/1 Vanguard's Trousers
Page for Black Block is named "..." which is causing issues
I am unable to create a new page for "Black Block" because the page name is being flagged as unacceptable. The Blocks page is also affected by ... acting silly.
- If you follow the link to edit the Black Block you can read an explanation of what happened. This is a technical issue understandable to people who understand how web servers work. The admins would need to edit their web server settings, or simply rename the ... page to something that won't wreck web servers, like "Black Block". Rl.starbound (talk) 11:46, 27 July 2023 (UTC)
Image Upload Appears to be Broken
I tried adding an image to a new article today, but when I click the link to upload the file it redirects me to a login link, despite the fact that I'm already logged in. When I attempt to login from this page, it gives me the error "Starbounder - Starbound Wiki uses cookies to log in users. You have cookies disabled. Please enable them and try again." Except, I do have cookies (including 3rd party cookies) enabled, so this is clearly wrong. I've tried with both Firefox and Chrome. I've also tried removing all extensions and using a pure vanilla browser, but no luck. At the current time, I cannot upload files. Rl.starbound (talk) 15:26, 2 September 2023 (UTC)
- On further experimentation, I am able to upload a new image using the "Upload File" link on the left menu. However, I seem to be unable to replace any image due to the reported issue, and I'm not sure if that's deliberate on the part of the admins, or if something has broken. Rl.starbound (talk) 23:28, 16 September 2023 (UTC)
- This seems to still be an issue. Several attempted image uploads of my own failed and gave the error message "[99f4f0bb] /Special:Upload UploadStashBadPathException from line 237 of /home/295519.cloudwaysapps.com/wzfhxpxdqs/public_html/mediawiki/includes/upload/UploadStash.php: key '1aqhovoljpuc.ydkqqm.9252.png' is not in a proper format".
Some research indicates that this error is probably caused by the mediawiki software used on this site being seriously out of date, which probably shouldn't be too hard for the admins to fix. AlienAgent (talk) 1:38, 24 February 2024 (UTC)
