The Parallax is a non-interactable piece of the game world; its purpose is to provide diverse scenery for the environments encountered in-game. Every environment has an associated parallax, containing uniquely defined layers.

Space
Space parallax are visible in all areas of space. They vary in complexity depending on the current location.
Ship View
|
The parallax seen from the player's ship is reflected based on the player's coordinates within the universe. The orbited planet will be the main planet to appear at the bottom of the screen. Neighboring celestial objects will be displayed relative to the ship's position. |
|
When the ship is traveling within a solar system, the parallax will reflect the movement. It will display the provided animation when the ship travels between solar systems. |
The parallax of space encounters can be comprised of old rusted junk parts orbiting around moderately sized asteroids. More commonly, the parallax is constructed of asteroids. |
Mission Worlds
Mission Worlds can refer to hub worlds, such as the Outpost. They also refer to mission instances such as the Protectorate or Erchius Mining Facility.
|
The parallax of the Protectorate mission (commonly named Earth) is the most urban background found in the game, alongside the parallax of the Decayed biome. Giant skyscrapers that are far beyond the reaches of clouds display sleek metal plating. A distinct feature of these skyscrapers is the inclusion of bushy greenery, which aren't confirmed to be naturally grown or engineered. Of all the backgrounds featured in the game, this is the only one that features flying objects that aren't clouds. For further clarity, distant ships of varying sizes occasionally fly by at different speeds. |
