Damage

Damage is the reduction of health in a player, npc, or monster. When the amount of damage reduces the player's health to zero, death occurs. As such, damage should be avoided when possible. Players can reduce most sources of damage with their defense stat, which is increased by wearing armor. Npcs can also wear armor, making them harder to kill.

Sources of Damage

Elemental damage

Elemental damages come from certain traps, monsters, and weapons. There are four types, being Fire (Attack).pngFire, Electric (Attack).pngElectric, Poison (Attack).pngPoison, and Frost (Attack).pngIce. These elemental damage types are sometimes paired with negative status effects as well, which are Burning, Electrified, Poisoned, and Frost repectively.

Monsters can be weak or resistant to some elemental damages. Weaknesses make them take 50% more damage while resistances makes them take 50% less damage.

Invincibility Frames

Most damage sources will give the player invincibility for one second if it has dealt over 10% of the player's health, allowing them to avoid being hit repeatedly.

Having higher defense and health stats makes it harder for the 10% threshold to be surpassed, causing a lack of invincibility frames that makes certain damage sources, such as the Ancient Flame Trap, much more dangerous in the late game than they otherwise would be.
