Broadswords are the two handed sword class. They are slower and more powerful than one-handed
shortswords. They cannot be aimed directionally, outside swinging in whatever direction the player is facing. There are a variety of broadswords found throughout the universe with unique effects, attacks, projectiles and appearances.

Elemental Damage
Common, as well as most unique, broadswords deal physical damage, but uncommon and rare procedurally-generated broadswords are assigned an elemental type. Some elemental types are more effective against specific enemies than others. In addition to determining the damage type, each elemental also corresponds to a status effect. These can be damaging (like burning, poison, or electrified) or offer control by impairing enemy movement (like frost). The elemental type of each weapon is indicated by the corresponding icon in the in-game tooltip.
Secondary attacks for uncommon and rare procedurally-generated broadswords always apply elemental status effects, but only rare procedurally-generated broadswords will apply those status effects with their primary attack.
Secondary Abilities
Secondary abilities are available for each broadsword. Most secondary abilities offer a special attack, although some are defensive in nature. Unique broadswords, whether crafted or found, have specific pre-defined secondary abilities. Procedurally-generated broadswords are randomly assigned a secondary ability based on their rarity, so for example, a common rarity broadsword would never be assigned an uncommon secondary ability.
Common Secondary Abilities
Common secondary abilities are those found on common rarity broadswords. They do not deal elemental damage and apply no status effects.

Trivia
- The only case in which the player can sustain Blade Charge's energy cost is when equipped with a Tier 6 Accelerator armor set, with an Energy III Augment installed in the EPP, and with the Bonus Energy Food buff active. When all of these are true, max energy is 336 (16 more than the 320 energy required by Blade Charge), allowing two special attacks in a row before completely depleting energy reserves.
