Doors
Doors are a placeable object type that have a togglable 'opened' or 'closed' state. Interacting with doors or powering them with wiring opens and closes them. Most doors must be mounted between two blocks, and breaking either of these blocks will also break the door. While most can be crafted or printed, others may only be seen being used in dungeons.

Hatches
Some doors are placed between two blocks horizontally rather than vertically, and are usually named 'hatches'. Objects placed on hatches will break when the hatch is opened.
Monsters and Doors
Originally, monsters could not open doors. This is still mostly true, but a bug introduced in 1.4 lets non-ghost flying monsters open unlocked doors.
| Known Bug | |
|---|---|
| As of 1.4, code that let NPCs open doors while pathfinding was moved from the Lua 'moveToPosition' function to the C++ 'mcontroller.controlPathMove' function. The developer who changed this seems not to have realized that some monster behaviors also use this C++ function, which means that those monsters can now open doors while pathfinding. Specifically, this bug affects 'aggroed' non-ghost flying monsters towards a player or NPC. | |
Wiring Functionality
Doors have a blue input slot at the top-left corner, and a red output slot at the bottom-right corner. The output sends an active signal whenever the door is in its open position; otherwise, it is inactive.
If a wire is attached to a door's input slot, the door cannot be opened manually, but will open only when it receives an active signal from the input wiring source, and will close only upon that signal going inactive. Likewise, if the door was an automatic door, and a wire was attached to the input slot, it will cease to open and close automatically and will operate under the control of the wiring source. Removing all wires attached to a door's input slot will allow it to revert to its default method of operation.
Wired Doors and NPC Path-finding
NPCs (and monsters; see the bug above) are not capable of path-finding through closed doors that have anything attached to an input slot. This is the case even when the input wiring source a proximity sensor next to the door. NPCs will path-find through such doors when they happen to be open, but once the door closes, the NPC will be trapped on one side of the door, unless and until the door happens to open again, e.g., by a player using the door, or an NPC randomly wandering near the sensor.
