Respawning
Cleanup
This article has been marked for cleanup for the following reason: |
Respawning is how characters are able to revive themselves in Starbound after death.
Upon death, non-hardcore mode players will see a respawning animation unique to their chosen race before being regenerated in their ship.
Certain NPCs can also respawn. Crew members will respawn when the player returns to their ship. Tenants can also respawn from their Colony Deed soon after death.
If the player fails a rescue quest due to the NPC dying, they will be told that the NPC will respawn, though the NPC is never seen.
Despite its prevalence, respawning likely exists solely for gameplay purposes and may not be considered cannon. After the player defeats The Ruin and is caught in its explosion, they are thought to be dead by their allies at the Ark and must be revived by the Cultivator. This implies that, at least in this one instance, death may canonically be permanent in the Starbound universe.
The respawn animations themselves can give a rare glimpse into some of the race's life cycles. For example, it's seems likely that the Floran are 'born' from pods as depicted in their respawn animation. The Hylotl's egg and tadpole stages are also shown, same as the Avian's egg and chick stages.
Human CloningThe Human cloning chamber was the first respawn animation shared. |
Avian RehatchRho later shared this gif, tweeting it was "Avian Cloning Animation". |
Floran RegrowthThe Floran respawn animation was shared in the June issue of the Starbound Chronicle. It was stated that it was a work in progress, so it may changed slightly before launch. |
Glitch ReassemblyThe Glitch respawn animation was shared by Tiy via a daily update. [1] |
