Shield Generator is an object unobtainable by players through normal means. This item's information is present in the game files, but not intended by developers to be in players' possession.

Shield Generator is a wired object. While placed and in the on state, the dungeon ID of the block on which it was placed becomes "shielded", meaning that no tiles, matmods, or objects can be placed or broken on any block sharing that dungeon ID. After being toggled off, tiles, matmods, or objects can be placed or broken as normal.

Functionally, the shield generator works similarly the shield generator switch. While both can be wired to activate and deactivate the shielding, the shield generator is non-interactive, that is, the player cannot directly toggle its state. Another major difference is that the shield generator is smashable, that is, it can be damaged and destroyed by weapon strikes, even while the shield is active. If destroyed by weapons, the shield generator will explode, causing damage to any nearby entities, including the player. If smashed while on, the shield generator's shielding is deactivated automatically.

Regardless whether the shield generator is broken by a matter manipulator or smashed with a weapon, it drops nothing. Given that there is no recipe for it, and it is not found in any drop pool, merchant pool, or treasure pool, the shield generator is therefore unobtainable by the player, except by admin commands.

Shield Generators are currently found only in Hylotl Underwater Cities.
