Core Fragment is a type of ore that glows red and is found very deep underground on all planet types except moons or barren planets. This ore is abundant near the core of a planet.

This ore can be found without mining on garden planets as all garden planets have old mines that contain core fragments.

20 Core Fragments are a requirement of the early game quest Getting Started, in which players repair a gate to the Outpost on their starter planet using Core Fragments. These can also be used to craft Volatile Powder.

Upon picking up a core fragment for the first time, SAIL will send the following message:

You discovered a core fragment! These are useful objects. I estimate that you will require at least 20 of them.
