Factions

Starbound features several organizations and groups within its setting and lore, ranging from wide-reaching galactic regimes to small, merry bands of rogues. They serve a role in fleshing out the universe and (at times) presenting unified antagonistic groups to the player. Each playable species with exception to the Novakid have at least one faction associated with them. The Player is only officially affiliated with a couple of factions, the Protectorate and (if they choose to go through bounty hunting) the Peacekeepers.

It is worth noting that there are other looser factions/unnamed-but-assumed factions present in game, such as Glitch Kingdoms, Floran Tribes, and the presumed governments of Humanity and the Hylotl, these are just the ones that are explicitly named in any capacity.
