Full Belly is both a buff and debuff status effect which is applied after players consume food. It prevents continual consumption of food to overcome damage and forces the player to plan out the need for healing and status effects their food provides. It also provides regeneration to health, which scales with player health as a fixed % for a fixed duration. The total healing provided by Well Fed (the internal name for Full Belly) is 100% of the players max HP over 120 seconds.

While active players will not be able to consume further food. Some consumables, like stim packs, do not apply this debuff and are not restricted by it.

Survival and Hardcore Modes

In survival and hardcore modes, players do not gain the full belly buff until they've maxed their hunger meter. When players eat they'll gain replenishment to their hunger based on the food's nutritional value as well as the food's other status effects but not Well Fed until the bar is topped out. While Well Fed is active, the food bar is set to 100% (70 units) and cannot go lower than this threshold until the effect wears off.

Because Well Fed works differently in survival and hardcore modes, players can eat different combinations of foods which stack buffs in a way that players in casual mode cannot, but it's at the expense of not having foods provide the Well Fed base level healing at all times.
