Find Clues to Locate the Floran Artifact is a quest which Esther gives after the Visit The Outpost has been completed, which introduces inspection mode of the matter manipulator.

For this quest players need to scan a number of Floran themed objects which can be found in dungeons or villages. Floran settlements are most likely to be found on forest planets.

Only specific objects provide progress points toward quest completion when scanned. To complete the quest players must earn 50 inspection points. There are a number of key objects, which award 20 points each, these will trigger a radio message from Esther. Each Floran settlement or village should have at least one key object placed somewhere within it, as well as several more minor objects worth a smaller number of points. Speaking with any Floran has a small chance of granting you a few extra points as well. Doing NPC quests in a Floran village may also help to reach the point total, since some NPC quests involve the player being given a clue item to deliver to a different NPC, allowing the player to place and scan that item before delivering it. Completing this quest may require players visit a number of different planets.

After earning 50 points Esther will summon the player to return to turn in. Completing this quest is a prerequisite to unlock the Ceremonial Hunting Caverns mission.

"Now that you're familiar with scanning, we need to start finding these artifacts dear. Yes, the Floran one first... Their colonies will contain vital clues to its whereabouts. Floran live all over nowadays, but still prefer the dense forest vegetation of planets found around gentle stars. Good luck dear, and thank you."

"You did it! That was the last clue we needed. I know just where the Floran artifact is now."

The key objects for this quest are as follows. When each is scanned Esther will report about it with a radio message.

Each of these objects counts for 20 points toward the 50 required for quest completion, and each can only be scanned for credit once.

20 "This spinneret is unusually large - what kind of creature could support such an organ? This is evidently a prized trophy. I wonder..."
20 "This glutinous webbing is of unusual hue and texture. The species that produced it must be unique in its characteristics, and probably limited in its environment."

A variety of other Floran themed objects can be scanned for smaller amounts of points toward quest completion.
