Find Clues to Locate the Apex Artifact is a quest which Esther gives after the Great Sovereign Temple has been completed and Tonauac has returned to the Ark.

For this quest players need to scan a number of Apex themed objects which can be found in dungeons or villages. Apex settlements are most likely to be found on tundra planets, which are referred to as 'frozen' in ship navigation.

Only specific objects provide progress points toward quest completion when scanned. To complete the quest players must earn 50 inspection points. There are a number of key objects, which award 20 points each, these will trigger a radio message from Esther. Each settlement or village should have at least one key object placed somewhere within it. Additionally, speaking with any Apex has a small chance of awarding you with 4 points. Completing this quest may require players visit a number of different planets.

After earning 50 points Esther will summon the player to return to turn in. Completing this quest is a prerequisite to unlock the Apex mission.

"I think we should begin our hunt for the Apex artifact. The Apex are generally found on frozen planets around frozen stars, so those are the best places to search for the clues we need. Wrap up warm dear, and remember: Apex society is in upheaval at the moment, so be on your guard."

The key objects for this quest are as follows. When each is scanned Esther will report about it with a radio message.

Each of these objects counts for 20 points toward the 50 required for quest completion, and each can only be scanned for credit once.

20 "Excellent find, dear! This drone's database is saturated with useful information."
20 "This is a useful find! I'm sure some of the information here pertains to the Artifact."
20 "This newspaper clipping is full of trickery and propaganda, but I believe there is information of use hidden beneath the lies."
